Premier League Games We’re Looking Forward To In August

It’ll be here before you know it – the Premier League 2023 – 2024 season is already on the horizon, even if it feels like the last one has only just finished. A new season filled with hope and optimism, with record signings making their debuts and stadiums baked in sunshine – there really is nothing like the start of a Premier League campaign. With no World Cup to worry about, this feels like our first ‘normal’ season for a while.

Now that the Premier League fixtures have been announced, we wanted to spend a bit of time looking forward to some great fixtures that will start the season off with a bang. August is always an exciting month in the football schedule, you tend to get some freak results and incredible football – let’s take a look.

FA Community Shield: Man City vs Arsenal, Sunday 6th August, Wembley Stadium

Okay, I’m cheating a bit here because this isn’t a Premier League match, but it is a match between the top two teams in the Premier League last season, and one we’re really looking forward to.

Manchester City will no doubt start the season as title favourites, but Arsenal’s rise last season caught many by surprise – perhaps even themselves. With some shrewd signings and having learned some lessons, could they be the main challengers for the title next season?

We have fond memories of the Charity Community Shield. The matches are usually quite fun, with little pressure on the players, and they can give you a little glimpse into how a couple of the top teams will perform in the new season. The big question of course is – will Jack Grealish have sobered up in time to take part?!

Our hospitality pick – The Bobby Moore Club

Enjoy a premium seat behind the dugouts for the match, as well as an incredible three-course meal in the Bobby Moore Suite and a fully inclusive bar. An incredible package.

Chelsea vs Liverpool, Sunday 13th August, Stamford Bridge

An absolute blockbuster of a fixture for the opening weekend of the Premier League. Two sides that have to hit the ground running following two very disappointing campaigns for clubs that have become accustomed to Champions League football. With clubs like Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton threatening to disrupt the ‘Big 6’, Chelsea and Liverpool cannot afford another disappointing season.

So the stakes will be high, even for the first game of the new campaign. Chelsea have home advantage, but Jurgen Klopp’s side were beginning to look like they had really found their form towards the end of last season. For an opening weekend fixture – this is huge.

Our hospitality pick – Under The Bridge

One of our favourite packages in the Premier League. You’ll get access to a relaxed lounge pre-match, with hot and cold food served, plus a complimentary bar. Plus a luxury, padded, seat for the match in the West Stand Upper.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth, Saturday 19th August, Anfield

Staying with Liverpool, their first home match of the season sees them play host to Bournemouth – a fixture that ended 9-0 last season.

Back then, it seemed like it was proof that Liverpool would be major title contenders and that Bournemouth were doomed to relegation – but that’s not how things panned out at all. Regardless, Liverpool must be looking at this match as a chance to really kick start their season.

As for Bournemouth, we’ll get to see whether their decision to ‘twist’ with Andoni Iraola rather than sticking with Gary O’Neil (who did an incredible job for them). Their season won’t be defined by a trip to Anfield, but the players will surely be looking to make amends for last year, and not make it as easy for Liverpool. Another fascinating contest.

Our hospitality pick – Brodies Sports Bar

This brand new hospitality package, located in the now finished Anfield Road Stand, promises to be one of the most popular hospitality packages in the Premier League. You’ll get exclusive access to the incredible new Brodies Sports Bar from three hours before kick off, and an hour after the final whistle, where you can enjoy complimentary street food and some incredible drinks at the premium bar. There will be a complimentary drink waiting for you at half time, and you’ll get to enjoy the match from a luxury padded seat in the lower tier. And you could be one of the first to experience it!

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United, Saturday 19th August, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

We’re still waiting to hear if this fixture has been selected for TV coverage, either by Sky Sports or BT Sport, so if you want to guarantee watching it live in the UK, you’re going to have to make your way to the stadium.

There have been classic games between these two clubs over the years, and we’re all intrigued to see how Spurs’ new manager, Ange Postecoglou, takes to the Premier League. This will be his first massive test – his first home game and one against a huge rival for European football.

As for Man United, there will be a bit of pressure on Erik ten Hag to step things up a notch and build on a solid campaign in the 22/23 season. They should be considered genuine title contenders.

This will be a fascinating match. These two sides probably surprised more than anyone else last season, to differing degrees. Fulham were doomed to relegation if you’d have asked most pundits, while Arsenal would have been happy with a Europa League place. Both achieved much more than that.

So this will be a great opportunity to see just how far these clubs have come, and what they can expect in the 2023/24 season. If Arsenal are going to compete for the title again this year, then this is the sort of fixture they should be winning, but Fulham proved that they aren’t just in the top flight to make up the numbers. They are more than capable of mixing it with the bigger clubs.

You’ll get a three course a la carte meal in the fantastic Dial Square Restaurant, as well as complimentary drinks and incredible seats either behind the goal or the corner flags. Plus admission to the Arsenal Museum.

Chelsea vs Luton Town, Saturday 26th August, Stamford Bridge

Not one of the Premier League fixtures that I expected to be writing about six months ago, but having Luton Town back in the top flight is great for the league – when new sides get promoted, it keeps things interesting.

It’s probably fair to say that staying up will be the sole aim for Luton this year, and that probably won’t be decided by how they perform at Stamford Bridge in August. They will be looking to pick up as many points as possible at Kenilworth Road – but points in matches like this will be a welcome boost, certainly.

For Chelsea – is it possible to have a must-win game in August? Because if so, this feels like a must-win game for them, given how last season went. In fact, August feels like a pivotal month for Mauricio Pochettino’s men – they need to start the Premier League season on the front foot.

The Anfield Road Stand Development

It’s felt like a long time coming, but the Anfield Road Stand should be ready to be fully opened for the 2023/24 season. It’s going to offer fans a whole new experience when they visit Anfield, with incredible new views and facilities.Anfield Road

We thought we’d take the time to have a deeper look at what changes have been made to the Anfield Road Stand, and what fans can expect when they start attending matches there next season. Let’s take a look.

A Brief History Of The Anfield Road Stand Expansion

The Anfield Road Stand redevelopment is phase two of a expansion project that began way back in 2014 when Liverpool Council agreed a deal with Liverpool FC to invest in the Anfield area of the city – a deal worth around £260 million. This settled any debate about whether Liverpool FC would leave Anfield and move to a new stadium – perhaps the most iconic football stadium in the world was to carry on being the home for Liverpool FC.

In 2014, the club submitted plans for the expansion of the Main Stand, adding 8,500 seats and taking the overall stadium capacity up to 54,742. Construction on the Main Stand was completed in September 2016, while further construction on the changing rooms and media facilities continued until 2017.

Then it was time to turn their attention to the second phase. In 2019, plans for the new stand were finalised and were due to be submitted for approval in early 2020 – but then Covid happened. With all the financial instability that surrounded the pandemic, Liverpool FC held off. Plans were eventually approved in June 20201 and work began in September 2012, with Jürgen Klopp breaking the ground at a ceremony (the contractors, the Buckingham Group, took over from there!)

The lower tier was retained and remained open throughout, with the upper tier being constructed around this – adding a new structure around the existing stand.

The new stand was to cost £60 million to build, and bring the overall capacity of Anfield Stadium up to 61,000 – the fourth highest in the Premier League. Liverpool FC have requested that their first match of the 2023/24 season be scheduled for an away fixture to give them a little more time to complete everything, but as it stands, everything is on schedule to be ready for the start of next season, as planned.

What Changes Have Been Made To The Anfield Road Stand?

The redevelopment of the Anfield Road Stand will enhance the Anfield experience for both home and away fans – it’s not just about increasing the capacity.

First of all, it is going to look amazing. The brickwork design, in keeping with the rest of the stadium, will be quite the sight as fans make their way over Stanley Park on their approach to the ground.

There will be a new roof added, and the corner filled in between the new stand and the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand – crucially though, they will remain separate stands to keep the unique Anfield atmosphere. There will still be great access to the Anfield Road Stand from Stanley Park. Part of the redevelopment will include the Family Park being moved into a covered position for the 2023-24 season.

From a practical point of view, there will be more flexibility on how they configure the away end – the number of away supporters will change depending on the opposition and even the competition; FA Cup matches require a higher allocation to away teams.

The concourse and ‘back of house’ facilities will be improved to match those of the new Main Stand – getting food and drink should be much easier, with more choice as well. There will also be improvements to the sound system and lighting as Liverpool hope to make Anfield a truly world-class stadium.

Finally, there will also be a brand new hospitality area in the new stand – more on that later.

When Will The Anfield Road Stand Be Officially Opened?

The plan is that in the second week of the 2023/24 season, Liverpool will have a home game and then the Anfield Road Stand will be officially opened.

A big part of the redevelopment of the Anfield Road Stand was an opportunity to upgrade the hospitality facilities at Anfield. We’re really excited about the new Sports Bar hospitality area – Brodies.

Match by Match Tickets for Liverpool Football Club

If you would like to purchase tickets for Liverpool games on a match by match basis, then you have a bit more of a chance, but they employ quite a convoluted system, with many ticket sales channels through the club directly, which we’ll explain now.

They make sure that a minimum of 10,000 supporters can buy Liverpool tickets for each home match – but they are only available during two sales windows – one in July and one in November. These tickets are available to Liverpool members, and in order to become a Member you will need to sign up on the official site and pay an annual fee.

The main issue here is that you are going to need to know what you are going to be doing months in advance of the match – and also be flexible as Premier League games are always getting moved for television coverage (on Sky Sports or BT Sport), especially Liverpool matches.

The weekend games tend to be the most popular, so much harder to get tickets for. Evening matches and cup games tend to be less popular, so they are probably your best bet for Liverpool FC tickets.

Some tickets for Liverpool matches will go on sale to non-members – but only a handful at most. They tend to be released about a week before the game, if there are any at all.

Finally, some tickets are available to holders of Fan Cards – but this system was stopped in 2008, so these are few and far between!

When Should I Go To A Liverpool FC Match?

If you want to get Liverpool FC tickets, the main draw is just to be at Anfield Stadium to watch Liverpool Football Club play a match. So, with that in mind, does it really matter when you go or who they are playing?

There are some fixtures that will be in incredibly high demand. The Merseyside derby is one of the most fierce rivalries in English football, and Everton always tend to make it competitive no matter how they are doing in the league. Then you have the other North West derby – Liverpool vs Manchester United – a fixture that has thrown up so many classic Premier League matches over the years.

And we can’t talk about Liverpool home games without mentioning some of the incredible European nights. While we don’t know when Anfield will next host Champions League fixtures, Cup games under the lights are always memorable. To be fair, the domestic cup games are also usually fiery affairs.

In the weeks leading up to it, after you invite attendees, make sure you follow it up with event details so that they know what to expect.

 

Nothing makes people uncomfortable like turning up for an event and not knowing what to do, where to go etc. They will arrive tense, and a group of tense attendees probably isn’t going to help you run a successful corporate event.

Let them know every detail – dress code, parking situation, how to get to the event venue, when they will eat, what they need to bring with them (tickets, ID etc), details about hotel accommodation, links to the event website – maybe even an event planning checklist so that they know that they have everything.

Whatever you do, don’t just invite them and expect them to turn up without any other communication. You run the risk of them being flustered and uncomfortable on the day, or even worse – a no show.
