What is Brodies Sports Bar at Anfield?

Liverpool Football Club and their Anfield Stadium are revered around the world for good reason – they’re iconic football institutions built on decades of success. The world famous Kop End, the flags, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, the electric atmosphere, the sea of red – and the football isn’t bad either. It’s no wonder that Liverpool tickets are some of the most sought after in the world.

This exclusive new sports bar is located on Level 1 of the Anfield Road Stand. It stretches across the width of the stand, with one half closer to the Main Stand, and the other section closer to the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand.

Brodies is a lively sports bar, with a focus on authenticity and building up the anticipation ahead of the match. It’s a place where you can feel the buzzing pre match atmosphere, the hum of excitement as fans chat about the match, with great food and drink on offer.

It’s probably not your traditional hospitality package. Or at least, it’s not what hospitality packages used to be like say ten or fifteen years ago – all white tablecloths with everyone wearing suits and ties. This is much more relaxed, which is why it appeals to genuine fans, as well as people entertaining clients.

On matchday, you’ll have access to Brodies Sports Bar for up to three hours before kick off, during half time and for another hour after the game has finished – the perfect place to stop for a drink while the traffic dies down. You can create unforgettable memories, with the chance of meeting Liverpool legends in the bar, taking in some live entertainment and mingling with other fans.

And a quick mention for the décor – the walls are adorned with images of some of the most memorable goals scored at Anfield over the years – the first Merseyside derby goal scored by Mo Salah, that Divok Origi goal, plus efforts from Fernando Torres, Trent Alexander Arnold and many more.

Tottenham Hotspur: Emerging Talents to Watch

Tottenham Hotspur have a long history of bringing through incredible talent from their academy. Players like Sol Campbell, Glenn Hoddle and, of course, Harry Kane have lit up both the Premier League and the international stage over the years.

Having a good academy is so important in the modern game. With the financial restrictions currently in force, clubs will need to rely on producing quality players to play for the first team, or to sell on to generate money for more high profile transfers. But, more importantly than that, there is nothing a fan base enjoys more than seeing ‘one of their own’ make it into the first team. Many Spurs legends have made their way through the youth setup.

So who are the next generation of wonderkids that are going to light up the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium? That’s what we are going to be taking a look at in this article, before rounding off with how you can get yourself to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to see them in action, with a quick look at the premium tickets and hospitality packages on offer. First though, let’s look at the youth team.

The Tottenham Hotspur Academy Setup

The Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Academy takes in talented young players, usually from the local area, from the age of 8, and coaches them right up to 23 years old. Like other Premier League academies, there is an emphasis on not just educating their players in the ways of football, but also academically. The harsh reality is that most of the players in any academy won’t make it at a high level of football, so it’s absolutely critical that the players leave Spurs with academic qualifications.

The director of the Academy is Simon Davies – this is not the same Simon Davies that played for Spurs in the early 2000s, it is the one that was part of the famous ‘Class of 92’ at Manchester United. His boss is Johan Lange, the Technical Director at Tottenham Hotspur, who is largely responsible for recruitment at the club, including at the academy. When Lange joined Spurs from Aston Villa in November 2023, he set out his plan to align the first team and the academy so that the same style of play would be introduced throughout the club – this should make the transition from academy to first team much smoother for the players.

So who are the players that are looking to break through into the first team?

Alfie Devine – 1/08/2004

It feels like Alfie Devine has been a promising youth player for years and years, but he is still just 19 years old. He is probably the most well known of the Spurs youth side, and is currently on loan at Championship side Plymouth.

Part of the reason that he feels like he’s been around for a long time is because he made his Tottenham Hotspur debut aged just 16 years and 163 days in a FA Cup match vs Marine, and he managed to get on the scoresheet in a 5-0 win. Jose Mourinho was the manager at the time – that’s how long ago it was!

Devine impressed as a playmaker playing a little bit deeper in his loan spell at Port vale, as opposed to his regular role as an attacking midfielder. The Spurs academy made the decision to try him out at Championship level for the second half of the season, and Spurs fans will be eager to see how he gets on.

He’s still a very exciting prospect, even after all these years(!). His goal has to be to get amongst the first team during the 2024-25 season – his ability to pop up in goalscoring situations could be vital for the first team.

Yago Santiago – 15/04/2003

Yago Santiago hasn’t been afforded many opportunities to prove himself in a Spurs shirt, but he is highly thought of in the Spurs setup, and has had a really exciting season at academy level – surely it’s just a matter of time before he makes the jump into the first team?

He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, from his local side Celta Vigo, but at the time of writing, he hasn’t made a first team appearance yet. He has featured in the matchday squad on a number of occasions though, the first time was against Manchester City in December 2023.

He can play anywhere across the front line, but his best position is probably a left winger. He is one of those players that makes dribbling the ball seem effortless, and he is a constant threat to the opposition. In his first eight matches for the Academy this season he scored six and got four assists – he’s clearly too good for that level, so when will he make the step up? He could be a great asset to the Spurs team, but as one of the older players in the youth team, he’ll be desperate to make the jump soon, or he may look to move elsewhere to get first team football.

Jude Soonsup-Bell – 10/01/2004

Jude Soonsup-Bell has the potential to become a huge star for Spurs. He’s another player at the sort of age that you would expect him to be knocking on the door of the first team very soon, and his record for the academy has been excellent over the last 12 months.

It was seen as something of a coup when Tottenham Hotspur managed to coax Soonsup-Bell across the capital from London rivals Chelsea. He had already made his debut for the Blues, and was highly thought of there, but as his contract drew close to expiring in January 2023, Spurs made the move for him and got their man.

He started out as a midfielder, but he has become a prolific striker at academy level, even being compared to Cristiano Ronaldo by some (over-excited) fans. He has a lot of great qualities, both in terms of his physicality and his skillset, so I am sure that we will see him in the first team before too long – surely he would have gone out on loan if he wasn’t in the mind of new manager Ange Postecoglou? You get the feeling with Soonsup-Bell that as soon as he gets an opportunity, he won’t look back.

Rio Kyerematen – 9/06/2005

Rio Kyerematen has been with the Spurs academy since he was eight, and has progressed up the ranks seamlessly to the under 21s, and has represented England at U16 and U18 level.

He seemed to be on the cusp of making his Spurs debut earlier in the 2023-24 season when the first team were going through one of its many injury and suspension crises, especially after Bissouma’s red card against Luton Town. It didn’t happen for him that time, but he has continued to impress in the youth sides, so you would think he would be firmly in the frame for the next crisis!

He is a classy player, with an eye for a pass, driving the team forward with his excellent range of passing. He’s the sort of midfielder that you can trust on the ball, and ball retention is so important to the way Spurs play under Postecoglou, so his talent won’t go unnoticed. He also contributes some great goals, as this thunderbolt against Peterborough U21 illustrates!

Perhaps a loan next season can help him develop, but it seems only a matter of time before Kyerematen is making a name for himself.

Will Lankshear – 20/04/2005

When a club spends £2 million on a player that has never made a senior appearance, you know that there is something about him. Clubs don’t spend that sort of money on just anybody.

So when Tottenham Hotspur signed Will Lankshear from Sheffield United in 2022 for that amount, there was understandably a bit of a buzz around him. He made his debut for the Tottenham U18 side that October, with them trailing 3-1 to Wolves – within minutes he had scored twice to pull them level. He made some appearances for the first team during the post 2022 World Cup friendlies, but at that point it was decided he should go for surgery to sort out a knee issue, so he has gone a little under the radar since all the hype when he arrived.

To put it simply, Will Lankshear scores goals. He has done at every level he’s played at, but there is more to his game than just poaching goals – he is great at creating space for his teammates with intelligent runs. He never stops running.

Oh, and just to add a bit of spice to when he makes an appearance in a North London derby – Lankshear started his journey at Arsenal before he moved up to Sheffield United.

Jamie Donley – 3/1/2005

Jamie Donely is one of the few academy players that has been given a first team appearance under Ange Postecoglou – making his debut away to Manchester City in that epic 3-3 draw in December 2023, and also appearing in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United that month.

Donley has been described by some as the new Harry Kane (no pressure, mate) largely because this kid can finish with a sweet left foot. Having been with the side since he was in the Under 8 team, he knows the club inside out, just like Kane did.

He was another player that had plenty of interest from lower league teams that wanted to take him on loan, but Spurs wanted to keep him around their first team. You get the feeling that if they should suffer any injuries to forwards, Donley is the first cab on the rank to replace them. At his age, though, any first team matchday experience is a bonus.

Donley has sufficiently ‘made it’ enough to have his own compilation video – from this you can see why people compare him to Kane, he is brilliant at bringing teammates into the game, as well as being in the right place at the right time to score. People at the club have very high hopes for this lad.

Alfie Dorrington – 20/4/2005

Alfie Dorrington has been in and around the first team squad under Ange Postecoglou, but is yet to make his first team debut.

It won’t be long though – the towering centre back (6ft 4 at the age of 18), has impressed the academy staff throughout his time at the club, becoming captain of the Under 21s, despite being one of the more junior players. he has also represented England at U15, U17, U18 and U19 level.

Dorrington is great on the ball – a quality more and more important in the modern game for a centre back, especially under a coach like Postecoglou. Obviously his height is a huge advantage at junior levels, but it would be wrong to focus too much on that – he can read the game very well as well.

Players like Dorrington will need to prove themselves at a first team level, most likely on loan, before they will be considered to be a major part of the first team, but he stands a great chance of making the step up.

Lucas Bergvall – 2/02/2006

We’ll finish this look at Tottenham’s most exciting youth players with Lucas Bergvall – a big money signing from Djurgården in Sweden. Perhaps the first major move of Johan Lange’s reign at Tottenham Hotspur.

He isn’t due to join the club until July 2024, but Spurs have committed £8.5 million to his signing, which shows how highly rated he is. He hadn’t turned 18 when the deal was struck. Spurs aren’t the only ones to see his quality – he has already made his senior debut for Sweden, and he was named as one of the best players in the world born in 2006 by The Guardian.

He could be anything – it seems that he doesn’t have a ceiling to his potential. He has played up front and in midfield, he is a confident passer and also gets stuck into tackles. He scores goals and he’s over 6ft. It’s up to Ange Postecoglou to work out how best to use this exciting Swede, but I’m sure he’ll find a way.

You’d think that Bergvall will be a part of the Spurs first team as soon as he joins the club, and there will be plenty of envious clubs around Europe looking on.

Manchester United: Profiles of Key Players

For a club that always seems to be on the verge of a crisis, Manchester United are quietly enjoying a decent season. Again. Okay, things could be better, and they certainly were much better under Sir Alex Ferguson, but those days are long gone now, and Erik ten Hag seems to be turning the corner.

His squad are starting to get to grips with his tactics and expectations. They are probably still under-performing slightly, because this is an incredibly talented squad of players, but before he could build up the squad he had to break it all down. The Manchester United fans are just starting to see the benefits – and with the upheaval that will take place at Liverpool in the summer, plus the 155 charges against Manchester City, the club could be rewarded for their patience with their manager.

So who are the players that are aiming to drag Manchester United back up the Premier League? We’re going to spend a bit of time getting to know the squad, with this article of profiles of the key Manchester United players. We’ll also let you know how you can get yourself down to Old Trafford for a Manchester United match while enjoying some of the incredible Manchester United hospitality packages that they have on offer.

Right, let’s look at some of Manchester United’s key players:

André Onana – Goalkeeper

André Onana Onana, so good they named him twice, was born on the 2nd April, 1996, in Nkol Ngok, Cameroon, and has carved his name as one of the most promising goalkeepers in modern football. His journey began at the Samuel Eto’o Academy, his talent catching the eye of Barcelona’s La Masia youth system in 2010. He had to spend his early years on loan – as a non-EU citizen he needed to be playing regularly to earn a work permit.

In January 2015, he was signed by Dutch giants Ajax, where he established himself as a key figure. He made 214 appearances and won three Eredivisie titles for the club. It was here that he first played under Erik ten Hag. His sweeper-keeping style and confident distribution drew praise, and he even holds the record for most touches outside the box by a goalkeeper in a World Cup match – 26 in 2022.

He signed for Inter Milan on a free transfer in July 2022 – there he won the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia, while also helping Inter to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by Manchester City. That summer, ten Hag swooped to renew his relationship, bringing Onana to Old Trafford in a deal worth £43.8 million.

It’s fair to say that the Man United fans haven’t seen the best of Onana yet – he has struggled for form, but he is still relatively young for a goalkeeper, and there is confidence within the club that he will continue to improve as a player.

Did you know? Onana is a polyglot, fluent in French, Spanish, English, Dutch, and his native Eton.

Lisandro Martínez – Defender

Lisandro Martínez, born January 18, 1998, in Gualeguay, Argentina, embodies the spirit of a tenacious defender. His journey began at local clubs Club Urquiza and Club Libertad before catching the eye of Newell’s Old Boys in 2014. After a brief stint there, he solidified his reputation with Defensa y Justicia, showcasing his aggression and ball-playing skills. This paved the way for a move to Europe when (guess who…) Ajax came calling.

Yep, Erik ten Hag signed the diminutive centre back for Ajax, and then after a successful time in the Netherlands, brought him over to Manchester United for around £47 million. Nicknamed The Butcher, for his uncompromising style of play, Martinez has become a favourite amongst the United fans – his passion and effort is appreciated. He possesses a lot of attributes that the club seemed to lack in those early post-Ferguson years. Drive, determination and steel.

Did you know? Despite ‘The Butcher’ being one of the best nicknames in the Premier League, Martinez actually prefers ‘Pit Bull’, his nickname from home, as he thinks it suits his style of play better.

Harry Maguire – Defender

Some people may scoff at Maguire being listed as a key player of Manchester United, but they probably haven’t been paying attention. While Maguire has had a few dips in form over the last few years, he remains one of the better defenders in the Premier League, and United’s defence is usually better with him in it. He has worked hard to get to the level he is currently at.

Jacob Harry Maguire was born March 5, 1993, in Sheffield, England. His footballing journey began at Sheffield United’s academy, progressing to the first team before embarking on a path that would see him join Hull, then Wigan, before a big money move to Leicester.

While at Leicester, he won the FA Cup, and played a role in them reaching the Champions League quarter finals, before securing a world record transfer fee for a defender when he joined Manchester United in 2019. Despite the ups and downs, Maguire has remained a pivotal cog in ten Hag’s side – every time he is written off, he manages to come back and prove himself all over again. He went from being stripped of the captaincy and seemingly put up for a transfer in the summer of 2023, only to win Premier League Player of the Month that December, after winning back his place in the side.

If Harry Maguire has any limitations, determination is not one of them.

Did you know? Maguire was an excellent student at school, with a former teacher saying about him: “He got A* and A grades in his GCSEs. I think he would have gone on to study business or maths and probably would have been an accountant. He was very capable academically.”

Luke Shaw – Defender

Luke Paul Hoare Shaw, born July 12, 1995, in Kingston upon Thames, embodies the modern attacking fullback. He started his career at Southampton’s academy, where he quickly rose through the ranks and made his senior debut at the tender age of 16. He burst onto the scene with his pace, crossing ability, and attacking instincts, earning the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2014.

Another world record transfer fee – this time for a teenager – saw Shaw join Manchester United in 2014 for £30 million. He has been incredibly unlucky with injury, especially in those early years, but Shaw has consistently bounced back to reestablish himself as an important part of the United squad. He is one of the longest serving players at the club, and still considered to be one of the best left backs in the world – dependable, but not without flair.

Did you know? According to YouGov, Luke Shaw is the 49th most popular contemporary footballer – one place above David de Gea. (Only reason for this fact is that it’s a fun list to look through!)

Casemiro – Midfielder

Carlos Henrique Casimiro, better known as Casemiro, embodies the archetypal defensive midfielder. Born February 23, 1992, in São José dos Campos, Brazil, his journey began at São Paulo FC, where he honed his tackling skills and tactical understanding. His rise to prominence led him to him being snapped up by Real Madrid as a 21-year-old. He wasn’t quite ready for the first team at that stage, so played in the Real Madrid B team, and then spent a year at Porto on loan, where he really started to make a name for himself.

When he returned to Madrid, he became a first-team regular under Zinidine Zidane. He had a knack of popping up with important goals, like his long-range effort in the Champions League final in 2017, and the first goal against United in the UEFA Super Cup. He became a legend at Real Madrid, which is no mean feat, and then in 2022, he joined Manchester United for around £60 million. When United lost 4-0 away to Brentford, before Casemiro had made his debut, he instructed his agent to pass on a message to the club for him: “Tell them I’ll fix it”. He has certainly increased the standards at the club, since that horror-show.

Did you know? Casemiro had never received a straight red card in his career before he joined Manchester United – he received two in the space of 8 games in his first season at the club…

Bruno Fernandes – Midfielder

Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes, born September 8, 1994, in Maia, Portugal, is a midfield maestro renowned for his creativity, vision, and goalscoring prowess. His journey began at Boavista’s youth academy, who he picked over Porto because Boavista offered him transport to training. He started out as a centre back, but was converted into an attacking midfielder while there.

His next step was to sign for the Italian club Novara, a bold move for a youth player, and it took him a while to settle. Eventually he did though, once his girlfriend moved over to join him, and earned the nickname the Maradona of Norvara as he helped his side gain promotion from Serie B. He had spells at Udinese and Sampdoria before moving back to Portugal to join Sporting Lisbon – and this was where it all clicked for him. He was the league’s player of the year in his first season, and became the highest scoring midfielder in Europe during his time there, helping his team again qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Man United signed him for around £68 million in 2020, and he has arguably been their best player since that moment. With the ability to change a match in an instant, he has brought some world class football to Old Trafford, and the fans adore him.

Did you know? Bruno Fernandes has a 90% success rate when taking penalties. He has only ever missed 5 in his entire career.

Marcus Rashford – Forward

What can you say about Marcus Rashford that hasn’t already been said? His story is incredible, and one that has been taken for granted. Let’s go back to the start:

Marcus Rashford MBE, born October 31, 1997, in Manchester, embodies the quintessential local lad who rose through the ranks to become a star for his boyhood club. His incredible talent and dedication are matched by his off-field activism, making him a role model for both aspiring footballers and social change-makers. Few people have had the same kind of influence he has had this century.

He joined the United academy aged 7, and then 11 years later he made his debut for the first team Manchester United were in the middle of an injury crisis at the time, so Rashford was promoted to the bench. Then, Anthony Martial got injured during the warm-up, so Rashford was asked to start. He scored twice in a 5-1 win. Three days later he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal – he scored and got an assist in a 3-2 win. What a start.

You know what he’s achieved since. Not only has he become one of the most consistent players in the Premier League, a mainstay for England, and a club legend, he has also worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. A player and person Manchester United should be proud of.

Alejandro Garnacho – Forward

As a club, Manchester United are starting to look towards a brighter future. Garnacho is a huge part of that optimism.

Alejandro Garnacho Ferreyra, born July 1, 2004, in Madrid, is a young winger currently electrifying crowds with his pace, skill, and audacious attacking play. Though born in Spain, he represents Argentina at youth level and has quickly become a rising star at Manchester United, captivating fans with his exciting potential.

He made his start at the Atlético Madrid Youth Academy, where he was a prolific goalscorer. Then, in 2020, while he was aged just 16, he made the move over to Manchester to join United’s academy. He was only there for a couple of years before he had burst into the first team, and has caught the eye with his electrifying pace and trickery.

Paul Gascoigne (1991 FA Cup Semi Final vs Arsenal)

A North London derby for an FA Cup semi final at Wembley – there aren’t too many bigger games than that, and in 1991, Spurs had a genius on their books to help them on their way to the final.

Five minutes into the game, Spurs got a free kick 35 yards out. As defenders made their way into the box Gazza had other ideas. As he began his run up, commentator Barry Davies said the immortal words: “Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? He is you know.”

The ball flew into the top corner past a helpless David Seaman in one of the most incredible goals of one of the most incredible careers. Arsenal were shell-shocked, and Spurs ran out comfortable winners of both the match, and then the FA Cup. The contrast between the semi final and the final against Nottingham Forest for Gascoigne though would underline this complex individual – genius in one match, master of his own downfall in the next.

Gareth Bale (2012-13 Premier League vs West Ham)

This was the era that Gareth Bale was just unstoppable, and emerged as one of the greatest players in the world (how unfortunate that he reached his peak at the same time as Messi and Ronaldo – surely in any other era he would have been the greatest).

In the weeks leading up to this West Ham clash, Bale had scored a hat trick against Aston Villa, a goal and two assists against Coventry City in the FA Cup, a magnificent solo goal against Norwich City, another in a win over West Bromwich Albion, and then two against Newcastle United – he was on fire.

Bale opened the scoring, but Spurs were trailing West Ham 2-1 going into the final 15 minutes. They scrambled home an equaliser, and then in the last minute Bale burst forward… only to be hacked down by the Hammers’ defence. No free kick was given, but Bale picked himself up and demanded the ball from his teammate. He took a touch to get a yard of space and smashed a shot into the far top corner to win the match. A sensational goal from a sensational player.

Jimmy Greaves (1965 League Game vs Manchester United)

We couldn’t have a list of memorable strikes without including one from one of the greatest Spurs players of all time – Jimmy Greaves. Many have compared him to modern greats like Lionel Messi, and ask any Spurs fan of a certain age, and they would agree. At his best, Greaves was unplayable.

It’s important to appreciate the context for this match – Manchester United in the 60s were a bit like Manchester United in the 90s. They won the league most years, and were the reigning champions when they went to White Hart Lane in 1965. And Spurs thrashed them.

At 2-0, the ball was played into Greaves’ feet with his back to goal. He then proceeded to turn on a sixpence, leaving his defender in no-man’s land. He then glided past the rest of the defence, and the keeper, before rolling the ball into an empty net. Incredible skill, which was thankfully caught on camera.

Heung-Min Son (2019-20 Premier League vs Burnley)

Some goals are memorable for the time that they were scored – the occasion, the opponents, the match situation. And then there are goals like this, that are remembered purely for the skill and quality.

Spurs were already 2-0 up and cruising when the ball broke to Son, just outside his own box. He turned and ran. And ran. And ran.

He darted past the hapless Burnley defence who just could not get near him. He kept going until he coolly slotted past the keeper. He’d run a full 90 yards with the ball.

Spurs went on to win the match 5-0, and Son went on to win the Puskas award for Goal of the Year.

Dele Alli (2015-16 Premier League vs Crystal Palace)

Those years of Dele Alli at his best were special times, weren’t they? He was invincible at his best.

There were many memorable strikes from Alli, but our favourite was this volley against Crystal Palace – it exemplified everything that he was about; incredible skill, confidence and power.

The match was 1-1, and Spurs were struggling to find the edge they needed to win the game. Palace were allowing crosses into the box, knowing that their physical defence could deal with most of what Spurs could come up with. As the ball arrived to Alli on the edge of the box, he was facing the corner flag. He kept the ball up with one touch and then with his second he flicked the ball over his own head, turning the defender as he did so.

With his third touch he unleashed a thunderous low volley into the bottom corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance. A wonderful bit of skill and improvisation to win a crucial match.

Ricky Villa (1981 FA Cup Final vs Manchester City)

This is probably one of the greatest goals ever scored in an FA Cup Final, and one of the greatest, and most important goals in the history of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

It was an epic battle with Manchester City – this was a replay, as the sides couldn’t be separated in the initial final. Villa had a poor game in the first final and was unhappy at being substituted, but was given a chance to put it right in the replay. And boy did he.

It was 2-2 in the replay, with both sides pushing for a winner, but looking a bit leggy. Then the ball came to Villa about 30 yards from goal, with five defenders and a keeper between him and the net. He ran at them, twisting this way and that before slotting the ball past the keeper, with Manchester City players piled up in a heap in the six yard box.

What a way to win a cup final.

David Bentley (2008-09 Premier League vs Arsenal)

A goal in a derby is always a memorable one. Even more so when it’s against your old club. And even more so when it’s a volley from over 40 yards.

David Bentley was one of those players that never really lived up to his potential. Incredibly gifted, but just never really showed it consistently. He scored some absolute bangers though, and this is right up there as one of his best.

Only thirteen minutes had gone when the ball bounced to Bentley. He was miles out, and there was no real suggestion of any danger for Arsenal – they had numbers back and Spurs only had one man up the pitch. So Bentley took a touch and smashed it on the volley, high into the sky.

Almunia in the Arsenal goal knew he was in trouble – he started back peddling, and dived desperately to get a hand on the ball, but it was no use. The opening goal of a game that would have so many twists and turns, culminating in an injury time equaliser for Spurs to make it 4-4. What a night. What a goal.

Paul Robinson (2006-07 Premier League vs Watford)

We’ve unlocked a new category of ‘memorable’ goal here – unlikely goalscorers.

Spurs were 1-0 up against Watford and it looked like it was going to be a pretty drab affair, but an important win. Then, Spurs were given a free kick, not far outside their own box, which Paul Robinson lined up to hoof upfield.

He really got hold of it, completely bypassing the Spurs forwards, and the Watford defence. It bounced close to the penalty spot, and then looped over a very young Ben Foster in goal, right into the corner of the net. Robinson couldn’t believe it. Neither could his teammates.

This was a goal that will live long in the memory for anyone that was there.

Erik Lamela (2020-21 Premier League vs Arsenal)

Unfortunately, no one was there to witness this next goal – scored, as it was, during the Covid era.

It was such a mixed bag this game – Spurs would end up losing the game 2-1, and Lamela ended up being sent off, but in the first half, he scored an incredible goal.

As the ball was fired across the Arsenal box, Lucas Moura brought it under control and nudged it towards Lamela, who had two Arsenal defenders charging at him. With no time to take a touch, he performed an audacious rabona, to squeeze the ball through the legs of a defender, and perfectly into the far corner.

He’d done it before in the Europa League, so it was no fluke. It went on to win the Puskas award.

Robbie Keane (2002-03 Premier League vs Birmingham City)

Robbie Keane scored so many memorable goals for Spurs, but one that really stuck out was this cheeky effort against Birmingham City.

Only six minutes had gone when Blues keeper Andy Marriott claimed the ball, and the players made their way up the pitch for the inevitable boot up the pitch (this was before playing it out from the back was a thing!)

Anyway, Marriott rolled the ball out in front of him, only to discover that Robbie Keane had been hiding behind him. Keane then promptly nipped in, took the ball, and rolled it into an empty net. Spurs went on to win 2-1, meaning this goal was crucial.

David Ginola (1998-99 FA Cup vs Barnsley)

Again, we could have picked any number of David Ginola goals, but this was just so good, we couldn’t leave it out.

FA Cup replays feature a lot in this list! It is when Spurs players dig deep and produce something special. They needed something special to beat a disciplined Barnsley side that were desperate to reach the semi-finals, but when the ball came to David Ginola on the touchline in the 68th minute, they were helpless.

The Frenchman weaved his way through the Barnsley defence, beating four men before slotting the ball home past the goalkeeper. It was a stunning display of skill, balance and speed that was worthy of winning any match.

Harry Kane (2015-16 Premier League vs Arsenal)

If it isn’t FA Cup replays, it’s a North London derby…

We couldn’t have a list of memorable Spurs goals and not include their all-time record goalscorer. Harry Kane scored 280 goals for Tottenham, so selecting one for this list was tricky. But this goal was a cracker.

Spurs were in the middle of a title challenge at the time, and had just hauled themselves back into the match with an equaliser having gone 1-0 down. A couple of minutes later, Harry Kane got the ball near the corner flag. He cut inside, and before he got inside the penalty area, he curled a fantastic shot into the far top corner to put Spurs ahead. It was out of nothing, but swung the game back in their favour.

That was such an exciting season for Spurs, it’s a shame they didn’t come out of it with a trophy. Kane, Eriksen, Alli, Lamela and Son were special players at that time.

Arsenal vs Chelsea: A Rivalry Reviewed

When Arsenal and Chelsea meet, it is usually the most exciting match in the Premier League that week. They are games that attract attention from the whole country, not just Arsenal and Chelsea fans, and they usually have implications on the Premier League title, or the Champions League places at the very least.

We wanted to take a look at some of the classic matches and moments between two of the most successful teams in the Premier League era, and relive some moments that will live long in the memory. They first met at Stamford Bridge in 1907, so there is plenty of history there, and over 100 years of a rivalry that has been bubbling away – which occasionally boils over which no one (read: absolutely everyone) wants to see.

Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea - 6th December, 1919, First Division

We’re going to get into some clashes that really expose the rivalry between these two teams, but to start, let’s have a match that was significant for a number of reasons.

Firstly, this was the first season to take place after the enforced break during the First World War. Both teams had a reason for being grateful that this was a top flight fixture – Arsenal had finished 6th in the second division in the last season before the break, and Chelsea had finished 19th (out of 20) in the first division. Yet due to a (controversial) quirk of a league reshuffle, they both miraculously appeared in the top division after the war. (At the expense of Tottenham Hotspur, amongst others).

This was also the first match that Arsenal were known as ‘Arsenal’, rather than ‘The Arsenal’ (having previously changed from Dial Square, Royal Arsenal and Woolwich Arsenal).

The match itself was played in front of 50,000 people at Highbury, and ended up a 1-1 draw with Henry Albert White scoring for Arsenal, while John Cock scored for Chelsea, who would go on to finish third in the league. At the time, this was the highest ever finish for a London club.

Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea - 3rd April, 1971, First Division

Going into April 1971, there were four teams in with a shot of the title and Arsenal were one of them, sitting second behind Don Revie’s Leeds United. Fans packed into Highbury (some even sat on top of one of the stands) to witness this crunch match between the two clubs.

Chelsea had two decent opportunities to go a goal up in the first half, but the ref stopped play on both occasions. Then in the second half, Arsenal showed their quality, and two goals from Ray Kennedy gave them the crucial win. Arsenal went on to win the double that year – only the second team to do that in the 20th century.

The match was a full-blooded encounter – the highlights were followed by a discussion from Jimmy Hill about whether the tackle from behind should still be allowed in the modern game…! I dread to think what he would think of what gets called a foul in the Premier League these days!

Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal - 2nd February, 1991, First Division

There was an unexpected hiatus for the Arsenal-Chelsea rivalry during the 80s while Chelsea had a well-earned break from the top flight of English football. But they were back in the early 90s and taking the lower-mid table by storm!

Arsenal, by comparison, were experiencing a resurgence under George Graham. They’d won the title when it was up for grabs in 1988-89, finished in the top four behind Liverpool, Aston Villa and Spurs in 1989-90, and were pushing Liverpool again for the title in 1990-91. When they turned up at Stamford Bridge, they were unbeaten in the league. But Chelsea were ready to spoil the party.

Arsenal had a legitimate penalty claim turned down in the first half for handball (a decision which I think Mikel Arteta is still fuming about), but Arsenal kept pushing for the opening into the second half. But they made a mess of a hoof up the pitch and Graham Stuart opened the scoring for Chelsea, and Arsenal started to fall apart. Kerry Dixon made it two with a minute to go, and despite an Alan Smith consolation in injury time, the unbeaten record had gone.

Fortunately for Arsenal, the shock resignation of Kenny Dalglish saw Liverpool’s form plummet, and Arsenal held their nerve to take their second title in three years. Chelsea, meanwhile, finished 11th.

Arsenal 3-3 Chelsea - 4th September, 1996, Premier League

This match in 1996 is not only memorable because of what an exciting match it was, but also because it seems that this was the last match between the ‘old’ Arsenal and Chelsea – just before Wenger, and then later Abramovich, changed them into the clubs we know today.

Arsenal had just sacked Bruce Rioch, and were in negotiations with Arsene Wenger, when Ruud Gullit’s Chelsea rolled into town. This was an unrecognisable Chelsea compared to the team from just a few years before. Where there was once Kerry Dixon and Dave Beasant, there was now Gianluca Vialli and Roberto di Matteo.

Chelsea raced to a two goal lead, thanks to a penalty from Frank Leboeuf and a goal from Vialli that stand-in keeper John Lukic really should have done better with. Paul Merson got a goal back just before half time, and Arsenal were back in it.

Martin Keown got the equaliser early in the second half, before Ian Wright put them 3-2 up, before Dennis Wise popped up with a late, late equaliser. A brilliant match, and better things for both clubs were just around the corner.

Arsenal 3-3 Chelsea - 4th September, 1996, Premier League

By the following year, Wenger had transformed Arsenal into a club intent in winning the title (and the FA Cup as it turned out) – the first team to test the dominance of Manchester United in the late 90s. Early in the season they met a Chelsea team that were starting to fulfil their potential, with a squad full of internationals. It was a Premier League classic match.

Gus Poyet opened the scoring with a tap in, before Ian Wright put Dennis Bergkamp through on goal for the Dutchman to equalise. In the second half, Bergkamp made it 2-1 to Arsenal, before Gianfranco Zola got on the end of a Mark Hughes cross to pull Chelsea level. Frank Leboeuf then received a second yellow, and Arsenal began their siege of the Chelsea goal – but with no success.

Until the ball fell to the dangerman – Nigel Winterburn. He picked the ball up miles away from goal, dribbled it uncomfortably for a few yards and then unleashed an unstoppable shot from 30 yards, straight into the top corner of the net. Incredible scenes.

Chelsea 2-3 Arsenal - 23rd October, 1999, Premier League

I reckon I could write an entire about this match alone. It was an absolute classic. The two sides were so strong that both Zola and Bergkamp started the game on the bench! Chelsea had not conceded a goal at home up to that point in the season, and were building on a solid few years towards the top of the table. Arsenal were going for the title.

This was a feisty affair from the off. Lee Dixon picked up an early booking for renewing a battle with Graeme Le Saux. Davor Suker was the next player in the book for a foul on Le Saux, before Tore André Flo put the hosts 1-0 up. Emmanual Petit then picked up a booking for a foul on [guess who], before daytime TV Star Dan ‘Pet Rescue’ put Chelsea 2-0 up. Game over. Right?

Enter Nwankwo Kanu. His first was slightly opportunistic, controlling an intended shot from Marc Overmars, and poking it home. Game on, with fifteen minutes left. The rain was really coming down by this point, and Kanu pulled the game level by immaculately controlling an Overmars cross and firing in at the near post. 2-2.

Both sides pushed for a winner, when the ball broke for Kanu near the corner flag. Chelsea keeper, Ed de Goey, was miles out of position, narrowing the angle outside his box. Kanu dummied to cross it in, de Goey fell for it, and Kanu was inside the box, but still with a virtually impossible angle, and two defenders on the line. Inexplicably, he shot. Right into the far top corner, to win the match for Arsenal. An iconic Premier League moment, goal and match.

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea - 6th April, 2004, Champions League

Arsenal had a decent season in 2003-04. But while their utter dominance in the league secured another Premier League title, success in Europe evaded them. Because of this match.

Arsenal had secured a decent draw in the first leg of this Champions League quarter final at Stamford Bridge, and would have fancied their chances of finishing the job at Highbury against a Chelsea side that would finish the league 11 points behind them.

The game started as you would expect, with the home team creating a couple of decent chances for Theirry Henry. Jose Antonio Reyes eventually put them 1-0 up, and they were expected to kick on from there to put the tie to bed.

However, when the second half started, Chelsea got right back into it. Frank Lampard took advantage of a spill from Jens Lehman, and the game became an end-to-end battle, with both sides having decent efforts on goal. Eidur Gudjohnsen thought he’d scored with five minutes to go, but his effort was miraculously cleared off the line by Ashley Cole.

Then in the 87th minute, left-back Wayne Bridge played a one-two with Gudjohnsen and prodded home an effort into the corner to win it for Chelsea. They were finally ready to mix it with the big boys of European football.

The Ashley Cole Transfer Saga - 2006

Boyhood Arsenal fan Ashley Cole had become one of the best left-backs in the world by 2006. He was an integral part of the Invincible team of 2003-04, and also one of the England national team’s best players. His profile had grown after an excellent Euro 2004, which was perfect timing for Cole, as he was about to open talks with Arsenal about extending his contract. His value had never been higher.

Roman Abramovich, meanwhile, had hired Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, and he was looking to build something special… As talks with Arsenal stalled, Cole attended a meeting with Mourinho and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon in January 2005. This wasn’t allowed – you can’t meet up with another team to talk about a transfer while you are under contract with your club. Cole pleaded his innocence, but it’s not a good look.

Despite this, Cole signed a new 1 year extension with Arsenal that summer, although he was reportedly unhappy with his pay and felt he deserved more. About £5,000 a week more. As he recalled in his autobiography, upon hearing Arsenal’s offer of around £54,000 a week, “I was so incensed. I was trembling with anger. I couldn’t believe what I’d heard. I suppose it all started to fall apart for me from then on.” We’ve all been there…

This was the beginning of the end for Cole and Arsenal. He was injured a lot that year, and Gael Clichy (who would surely never leave for a league rival) proved to be a more than adequate replacement for Cole – so Arsenal were confident they could live without him.

Chelsea won their second consecutive Premier League title in 2005-06, and renewed their pursuit that summer. The negotiations were bitter. Arsenal wanted £25 million, while Mourinho was adamant that they were not budging from their initial offer of £16.5 million. In the end, it went down to deadline day, when they eventually agreed on a deal of £5 million with William Gallas moving to Arsenal. The unspecified value of Gallas seemed to save face on both sides.

By this point, though, the Arsenal fans had lost all their affection for the man they now dubbed Cashley Cole – who was paid £90,000 a week by Chelsea. On his first return as a Chelsea player, he was pelted with fake money.

Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal - 25th February, 2007, League Cup Final

With all that fresh in people’s minds, when Chelsea and Arsenal met in the League Cup final the following year, it all boiled over.

Just 11 minutes had gone when a 17-year-old Theo Walcott scored his first goal for Arsenal to put them a goal up. This was an incredibly young Arsenal side, as Wenger stuck with the players that he had rotated in from the earlier rounds, leaving players like Henry out of the side.

It didn’t last long, as Didier Drogba equalised after 20 minutes. Into the second half, and John Terry took a boot to the face, with both sets of players showing huge concern – he was knocked out cold and rushed to hospital.

Then, with just seven minutes to go Drogba headed in the winner. But the action continued, when in injury time, a clash between John Obi Mikel and Kolo Toure sparked a brawl that saw both benches rush onto the pitch. Mikel, Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor were all sent off to add to the seven yellow cards that had been issued in the match. Absolute chaos.

Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal - 29th October, 2011, Premier League

Chelsea had really turned the tables on Arsenal in this period, winning most of the matches between the two clubs, and winning many more trophies in the period. However, in 2011, there was this classic Premier League match that gave Arsenal fans something to sing about.

Frank Lampard put Chelsea 1-0 up, before Robin van Persie equalised. Chelsea went back up the other end of the pitch and John Terry scored from a corner. 2-1 at half time.

The second half was bonkers. Santos equalised for Arsenal, before Walcott put Arsenal ahead for the first time with a great finish at the near post. Juan Mata equalised, and Chelsea fans would have been well within their right to think they’d go on and win from there.

However, a loose back pass let in van Persie to dart past John Terry doing his best Steven Gerrard impression, and he confidently rounded Petr Čech in goal to send Arsenal 4-3 up. As Chelsea pushed for another equaliser, Arsenal hit them on the counter and van Persie completed his hat trick in emphatic style. A cracking match.

Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea - 27th May, 2017, FA Cup Final

Premier League champions Chelsea were looking to win the double, while Arsenal had not qualified for the Champions League for the first time in Wenger’s reign – the end looked near for him as fans started to show discontent with the man that had given them so much.

After just four minutes, Alexis Sanchez put Arsenal 1-0 as he ran from deep to latch on to his own knock-on. Aaron Ramsey was flagged for offside, but as he didn’t touch the ball, a goal was awarded after a chat between the ref and linesman.

Arsenal had the better chances in the first half, having one cleared off the line and Ramsey mis-controlling from a yard out when he had an open goal. Chelsea grew into the game, though, until they were reduced to 10 men when Victor Moses was sent off when he received a second booking for a dive in the box. That should have been that, but Diego Costa equalised for Chelsea and it looked like the game would head into extra time, when Ramsey made up for his miss in the first half by scoring the winner.

It was Wenger’s last major trophy as Arsenal manager.

Let’s run through what you can expect when you go to a Spurs home game.

Getting there

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is pretty well connected to the transport network in London, it’s serviced by four different stations which are all within walking distance. While White Hart Lane is the closest to the ground, it is usually incredibly busy on a match day, so you’re probably better off avoiding that one. Tottenham Hale is connected to National Rail lines, so that might be a good option if you are travelling from outside London. Seven Sisters is around a half hour walk away from the stadium, but there are plenty of bars and pubs that you might want to pop into on the way! Northumberland Park is another option, just a 10 minute walk away.

There is also a free shuttle bus that runs from Wood Green and Alexandra Palace, which is a great option. We would advise against driving to the stadium if you can avoid it – you’ll struggle to find anywhere to park.

Best pubs near Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

If you fancy a drink before you enter the stadium, here are a few options for you:

  • The Bricklayers Arms: This is a classic ‘Spurs’ pub – decked out in scarves and other memorabilia and just 100 yards from the ground. It will be rammed on a matchday, but well worth a visit.

  • The Antwerp Arms: A great option for both home and away fans – there’s usually a lively atmosphere, but great for a bit of banter between the two sets of supporters. A 10 minute walk from the stadium.

Inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – General Admission Tickets

While there are some great options for a drink or some food outside the ground – you’re really missing a trick if you don’t spend a decent amount of time inside the stadium. We mentioned the 65 food and drink outlets above, and that gives you some indication about the variety of options on offer.

One of the big things at any stadium is how quickly you can get served. With the longest bar in Europe (65 metres), an in-house brewery and state-of-the-art beer pouring system, the club boasts that they can pour 10,000 pints a minute. This has drastically reduced the amount of time you have to queue (around 5 minutes at the busiest periods). If you need a drink at half time, you can probably expect to miss a few minutes either side of the break, but it is certainly better than most stadiums.

If you’re after some food, you are spoilt for choice. Pizza, Indian, noodles, fried chicken plus the standard chips, burgers, hot dogs and pies. There is more choice inside the stadium than you get on some high streets.

Wherever you are seated for the match, you are guaranteed to have good seats. The views from all over the stadium are great, and you won’t miss a second of the action. Spurs have put in work to generate a great atmosphere as well – the South Stand is where you’ll find most of the noise, especially for the big games.

Post match, the traffic and queues for public transport usually means that you are better off staying in the stadium for a while – there is no need to rush out just to join another queue. Take your time, maybe have another drink or some food, and wait in those lovely surroundings while the queues die down – you’ll have a much more pleasant trip home if you do.

What’s it like watching Spurs?

While the experience may differ depending on which premium experience you opt for (and we’ll take a look at a couple of options further down this article), there are a few things you can expect no matter which VIP tickets you purchase. All premium tickets come with a dedicated fast-track entrance.

You will have exclusive access to the stadium for up to three hours before kick off, and we would urge you to take full advantage of this to really make the most of the experience. The East Stand and the West Stand both have two tiers dedicated to premium seats, and both have premium bars and lounges to enhance the premium experience.

In these lounges you might find some live entertainment, a range of dining options (from light bowl food to fine dining), premium bars, appearances from Spurs legends, plenty of screens showing football (great to watch the early kick off), and if you are lucky enough to be in the Upper Tier you will have panoramic views of, not just the pitch, but of the city of London.

The pre-match atmosphere is great – you can feel the anticipation as kick off draws closer, and the new manager has certainly brought with him a certain sense of optimism amongst Spurs fans, which really comes through when you’re in amongst them.

For the match, you will have luxury padded seats – the best seats in the house from which to enjoy the game. You’ll get a great view of the play developing as Spurs work their way up the pitch.

After the match, we would strongly urge you to enjoy another hour of incredible hospitality. As we said in the section above, all you’ll find outside the stadium is queues, so you may as well settle in for another couple of drinks and some great food.
